McAuley eager to keep improving

West Brom defender Gareth McAuley will set new targets for himself after helping the club to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

McAuley signed a new two-year deal with the club on Friday after a season which saw him pick up the Supporters and Players Player of the Season awards.
Speaking to the club s official website, McAuley thanked manager Steve Clarke for helping him stay focussed during the contract discussions and said new goals would now be set over the summer.
I ll now sit down, have a good think over the summer and set myself more targets for the next two years, McAuley said.
I ve achieved pretty much what I set out to do when I came here just little personal things and I ll evaluate that again and be ready to go again.
That keeps me moving forward, keeps me progressing, keeps me turning in performances for the football club, and hopefully I stay in the team and have more success, and finish with more points next season.
Since joining from Ipswich Town in 2011, McAuley has become an integral part of the club and the Northern Irishman said he has been pleased with how he has coped with higher-level football.
The last two years have been fantastic it s a dream come true, he continued.
When you play a lot of football in the lower leagues, to get the opportunity and to take it is pleasing.
I backed myself to do it purely because I wanted to and when I got the chance I would have been letting myself down if I hadn t stepped up to it.
