Neymar v Lautaro Martinez: Who should Barcelona sign?

Football may be on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Barcelona are reportedly already planning their transfer business ahead of the window reopening.

The LaLiga champions have been short of options up top this term as a result of injury lay-offs for Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele and reinforcements are being sought.

Two players continue to be continually linked with a switch, with Barca supposedly torn between a move for Inter striker Lautaro Martinez or ex-Camp Nou favourite Neymar.

Martinez has once again starred for Inter this season and the possibility of a move to Catalonia has been talked up by compatriot Lionel Messi.

But speaking earlier this week, Rivaldo claimed Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar would be a better option for his former clu…

Manchester City 2 Liverpool 1: What next for Klopp´s Reds?

It was an unfamiliar losing feeling for Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

The Premier League leaders missed the chance to open up a nine-point gap to Tottenham and 10 over Manchester City, thanks to a 2-1 loss at the latter.

Jurgen Klopp s men had not been beaten in the league this campaign until making the short hop to Manchester and they must now find a way to bounce back with City – who are now second – just four points back.

Here, we take a look at their record against each of their next five Premier League opponents.

We are still in a pretty good position so it’s all fine for us. Not in the moment, it feels really bad, but it’s only the moment.

Time to regroup, move on and prepare for the next game. Up the Reds.

Ancelotti relishing Milan friendly

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is looking forward to facing former club Milan in a friendly in Dubai.

Ancelotti spent eight years as Milan boss from 2001 to 2009, having previously starred for the club as a player.

And the 55-year-old believes Tuesday s friendly clash could be a memorable encounter against ilippo Inzaghi s side.

It is a warm-up game, both teams will be treating as such, but it will also be a great spectacle of football, he said.  The two teams with the most amount of European Cup titles face each other. It is good to be part of this event.

It is going to be a very special match for me. I have a lot of history with Milan and I also have a great relationship with the Milan manager, who was one of my players.

It will be a spe…

Solskjaer backed for Manchester United job by Yorke

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be given the Manchester United job on a permanent basis, says Dwight Yorke.

Solskjaer has a perfect record of eight wins from eight games in all competitions since taking charge of the Premier League giants on an interim basis after December s departure of Jose Mourinho.

The club s former striker will set a record if United beat Burnley at Old Trafford on Tuesday, becoming the first man ever to lead a team to wins in their first seven Premier League games in charge of a club.

Despite Solskjaer s success, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is still widely considered a leading contender for the United post, although his claims have been dented by EFL Cup and FA Cup exits in the space of four days.

And although Pochettino has…

No excuses for Spalletti after Inter lose again

Luciano Spalletti was at a loss to explain how Inter slipped to a 1-0 home loss to Parma that leaves his team in the bottom half of the Serie A table.

Despite being widely tipped as possible title contenders at the start of the season, Inter have collected a paltry return of four points from four matches, a 3-0 win at Bologna their sole success.

Federico Dimarco, on loan at Parma from Inter, scored a brilliant winner 11 minutes from time to earn his side a first victory back in Serie A at the expense of his parent club, although he could have earlier been punished for a handball on the goal line.

Spalletti, though, accepts his team have not been good enough in the opening weeks of the season, with Inter set to host Tottenham in their first Champions League gr…

Mourinho: I gave more to Real Madrid than any other club

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has no regrets about his time in charge of Real Madrid, claiming he gave more to the Spanish giants than any other club.

Mourinho was in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu from 2010 to 2013 and won LaLiga in 2011-12.

However, he left the following season amid reports of fractured relations with key players Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, who described Mourinho as just another coach this week.

Ahead of Tuesday s meeting between United and Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje, Mourinho asserted that he left the Spanish capital feeling satisfied with a job well done.

I left feeling quite at ease and feeling that I had nothing left to give, he said. I can truly say that I gave more to Real Madrid any …

Ferencvaros 2-3 Celtic: Bhoys win five-goal thriller in Hungary to boost qualification hopes

Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota and Liel Abada were on target for Celtic as they beat Ferencvaros 3-2 in Hungary on Thursday to boost their hopes of making the Europa League knockout stages.

Furuhashi opened the scoring in an entertaining first half, finding the bottom-left corner inside the first three minutes, but a Josip Juranov own goal – deflected in from Oleksandr Zubkov s effort – saw Ferencvaros level the scores.

Jota lashed a terrific strike in off the post from long distance to restore the Bhoys advantage later in the first half, and Abada added a third on the hour mark after some neat build-up play from the visitors before Myrto Uzuni pulled one back for Ferencvaros late on.

The result sees Ferencvaros eliminated from the group as their wait for a point g…

Andre Silva seals permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt from Milan

Andre Silva has completed a permanent move from Milan to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Portugal striker spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga club, scoring 16 goals in all competitions.

The 24-year-old has now signed a three-year deal with Frankfurt, much to the delight of sporting director Fredi Bobic.

Over the last few months we ve seen what Andre s capable of, he said via the club s website.

It was no accident that he was the second-best striker in the Bundesliga after the restart. He s a young and flexible attacker and, at 24, he s still got potential to improve.

We re confident we can take him to another level here in Frankfurt and we re delighted to have tied a superb striker to the club until summer 2023.

Silva joined Milan f…

Martino salutes Atlanta´s grand plan

Outgoing Atlanta United coach Gerardo Martino hailed the success of the club s plan after clinching the MLS Cup just over two years after his arrival.

Martino took over at Atlanta in the club s inaugural MLS season and announced in October that he would be leaving at the end of the 2018 campaign, citing personal reasons.

A 2-0 victory over Portland Timbers saw his side crowned MLS Cup champions on an emotional night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and he expressed his admiration for the way the club s directors have steered Atlanta to glory.

This club had a plan from the very beginning, he told reporters. From the first time we spoke in September 2016 in Rosario.

Guardiola unsure if Garcia is bound for Barca before deadline

Pep Guardiola says he is unsure if wantaway Manchester City defender Eric Garcia will return to Barcelona before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Guardiola revealed in August that Garcia had turned down a new contract amid reports Barca wanted to take him back to his homeland.

The 19-year-old centre-back s current deal expires at the end of this season and links with the Blaugrana have intensified.

On Friday Guardiola revealed there was no agreement with Barca, but he admitted that does not mean the teenager, who joined City in 2017, will remain in Manchester.

Asked if Garcia could be on his way back to Barca, he said: I don t know, today he is our player and Monday is the transfer window, so I don t know exactly what is going to happen.
